Virtuo partners on logistics carbon certification

A strong commitment to low-carbon logistics real estate

Virtuo is taking a new step forward in its commitment to ecological transition. We are proud to be among the first players to support the joint initiative of Afilog and LCBI (Low Carbon Building Initiative), which aims to create a shared carbon benchmark for logistics real estate and launch the first European low-carbon label dedicated to this sector.

This strategic partnership aims to reduce the carbon footprint of logistics buildings throughout their entire life cycle, including construction, operation, renovation, and deconstruction.

Why a low-carbon label for logistics real estate?

Logistics buildings — such as warehouses, distribution platforms, data centres, or industrial units — represent a major challenge in the decarbonisation of the built environment. Yet, until now, no dedicated carbon label existed at the European level for this asset class.

This is the ambition behind the Afilog and LCBI partnership:

  • To establish a unified methodology for calculating carbon footprint

  • To define emission thresholds that must not be exceeded

  • To create a harmonised framework for labelling low-carbon logistics assets

Virtuo, one of the pilot companies of the LCBI Logistics project

As an active member of Afilog, Virtuo is participating in the pilot testing phase of the carbon benchmark, applying it to real-world projects across several European countries. We are providing operational data to support the development of a robust and actionable methodology.

We are also an official partner of the upcoming LCBI Logistics label, alongside Lidl and GSE Group, contributing to the co-creation of an ambitious and credible framework that can accelerate the environmental transition of our sector.

“The LCBI Logistics project, structured by BBCA, represents a major step forward. It will make it possible to distinguish truly committed assets and to recognise the tangible efforts of those driving sustainable logistics. We are proud to be part of this momentum as a partner.”
