The VIRTUO Lab – ” Aim higher than the Paris Agreement ” (Accord de Paris)
BREEAM Very Good certifications, photovoltaic panels on the roofs of buildings, design and construction of low-energy consumption logistics platforms… VIRTUO’s sustainable development approach translates into numerous actions. Yet the reality of global warming is a daily reminder that it’s never enough. VIRTUO now aims to achieve the goals set by the Paris Agreement ahead of time. Details in the following images.
Committed to the economic and environmental performance of logistics real estate
When it comes to real estate, the choice between ecological performance and economic performance is no longer an option, but rather, a desire to achieve both! This decision led to the signing of a Charter of Reciprocal Commitments between the French government and 41 members of the Afilog association on July 28, 2009, which has since been joined by seven new members. One of the first to sign was naturally VIRTUO, long-time partner of Afilog in the field of sustainable logistics real estate. “Sustainable development, environmental protection, carbon neutrality and innovation have been at the core of VIRTUO’s priorities for many years. Being a signatory member of the AFILOG environmental charter is a strong demonstration of our commitment, which is now measurable. This charter shows that the industry does not need to be subject to regulations to be innovative and respectful of the environment”, underlines Paulo Ferreira, Associate Director at VIRTUO.
The charter’s most significant commitments to the environment are land conservation, biodiversity and carbon neutrality. “This charter provides guarantees about what the industry is capable of: work hand in hand with the government to protect and take part in the economic and environmental development of our country,” concludes Jean-Michel Lemius, Partner at VIRTUO.
Target: carbon neutrality by 2050
One target date: 2050. One goal: a climate-neutral European economy. In November 2018, the European Commission presented “its long-term strategic vision to achieve a thriving, sustainable, and competitive climate-neutral economy by 2050.” This ambition is consistent with the Paris Agreement, which focuses on limiting global warming as a primary focus. Environmental, economic, social, technological and industrial issues are at stake. For these reasons, VIRTUO has been committed to sustainable development for many years and is taking its projects to the next level in 2021.
The Compans site, a 15,000 m2 courier service developed on behalf of Colis Privé on an ADP site is one of them, with high environmental ambitions: BREEAM Excellent certification, Biodivercity label and carbon neutrality.
